QUANTUM WONDERING

Years ago, I read a book about Quantum Physics that filled me with wonder.  I am not a scientist and quantum mechanics is a tough science to explain or understand, but I was amazed at the congruence between quantum physics and the realm of consciousness.  The book, Quantum Enigma by Bruce Rosenblum and Fred Kuttner, opened up a whole universe of new perspectives and impossible possibilities for me.  Even if science isn't your thing, the quantum field is charged with spiritual energy.  The pages in this section are meant to spur you to wonder and ponder and consider and imagine.  I hope it leads you to have your own quantum questions.  Just thinking about these things helps us break out of our perception boxes and begin to see the world from a higher perspective.
There have been many books written on the porous intersection of science and spirituality.

A few Books:

Quantum Enigma by Bruce Rosenblum and Fred Kuttner

Quantum Physics and The Power of the Mind by Nancy Patterson

A Quantum Case for God by Dennis Zetting

Science and Spiritual Practices by Rupert Sheldrake

Funamentals: Ten Keys to Reality by Frank Wilczek

Wondering #1: Stuff of Stars

Scientists believe that every particle that makes everything on earth was created billions of years ago in the Big Bang and supernova explosions that followed.  Every cell in our bodies is made of material that is over 13 billion years old.  How's that make you feel?  The water in our bodies (which makes up about 60%) has been recycled over and over again.  Your water may have once been part of an ocean, or a cloud, or a dinosaur that walked the earth 70 million years ago.  The carbon and oxygen in our bodies actually got their start inside a star!  I wonder where the water in my body has been and what lives it has been a part of?  I wonder if that influences me in any way?  I wonder what star the carbon in my body originated from?  I wonder where it will go next?  I wonder what it means to be made of star dust?

Wondering #2: Space Voyagers

We are made of cells that are made of molecules that are made of atoms.  Atoms are made of subatomic particles (protons, neutrons, electrons).  But here's the freaky part: subatomic particles are not always in a particle state!  According to Quantum Mechanics, subatomic particles behave as both a particle and a wave.  Just think for a minute about the implications for us.  This body that seems so solid and anchored to earth by gravity is not only made up of the stuff of stars, but I wonder if our body's smallest componants are visiting the realm of the stars on a regular basis!  Right now!

Wondering #3: Perception

When we walk across a football field, we perceive the ground as flat, but it isn't.  Our world is spherical - everything is slightly curved.  When we lie in bed at night we perceive the world as still, but it is moving around our sun at a lightning speed of 67,000 miles per hour!  Even when our part of the earth has rotated us upside down, gravity and our perception make us think we are always on top of the earth and the ground is always below us.  When we see an apple we perceive a delicious piece of solid fruit but its particles are actually vibrating all the time.  That same apple, which we perceive as red is actually every color except red!  Imagine if we could perceive our apple as it really is - a vibrating black spot of energy hovering over our table (which is also vibrating).  I wonder if we would still want to eat it?
Our perception deludes us on a regular basis.  The old saying, "Believe half of what you see and none of what you hear" is good advice by contemporary science standands.  I wonder what other perceptions that we take for granted are also delusions?

Wondering #4: Radioactive

We emit electromagnetic energy - constantly.  Sometimes referred to as thermal energy, our emissions are a form of radiation.  We are radioactive as long as we are alive (and a little while after).  This energy is released in quantum units called photons that go out into the world and interact with other particles.  The higher the frequency of our emission, the greater the energy of the released photons.  What an amazing creation we are!  Could this energy explain spontaneous healings?  Answered prayer?  Discoveries?  Creativity?  If so, I wonder how we might increase the frequency of our emissions and influence their impact on our world?
